"यह पाकिस्तानी परंपरा नहीं है"

फ़िल्मों की भाषा आम तौर पर एक बड़े व्यापक वर्ग को ध्यान में रखकर लिखी जाती है. ख़ासकर अगर विषय-वस्तु ऐतिहासिक या आंचलिक न हो. कोशिश यह दिखती है कि ऐसे लफ़्ज़ों का इस्तेमाल हो जो पूरे देश (और विदेश) के लोग समझ पाएँ. पर टीवी में दर्शकवर्ग अधिक केंद्रित होता है. और इसी वजह से टीवी की भाषा में आम तौर पर ऐसे शब्द मिल जाते हैं जो लक्षित क्षेत्र-विशेष के बाहर के लोगों के लिए अपरिचित होते हैं.

पर अब सैटेलाइट के ज़माने में टीवी अपनी क्षेत्रीय प्रसारण सीमाओं से आज़ाद हो चुका है. हिंदी टीवी के कार्यक्रम अमेरिका, खाड़ी क्षेत्र, और पाकिस्तान में भी रुचि से देखे जाते हैं. और इस फैलाव के साथ ही फैल रहे हैं शब्द. इसमें कोई शक नहीं कि एक आम हिंदीभाषी की उर्दू शब्दावली बढ़ाने में फ़िल्मों और फ़िल्मी गानों का बहुत हाथ रहा है. अब ऐसा ही कुछ पाकिस्तान में हिंदी शब्दावली के लिए टीवी कर रहा है. एक दिलचस्प लेख में देवीरूपा मित्रा लिखती हैं,

"A quick survey of Pakistanis, particularly the young and women in cities, showed that they were familiar with some of the more difficult Hindi words.

"Sometimes, I find myself saying, 'yeh Pakistani parampara nahin hai' (this is not Pakistani tradition), which causes my husband to look at me strangely," said Nadia Bano, a 32-year-old Islamabad housewife.

"On a Pakistani web forum debating the "Indian invasion" through TV soaps and films, a netizen wrote, "To learn the other dialect all a Paki need do is to watch STAR Plus and he'll pick up Sanskrit vocabulary".

"He listed several words that he had picked up by watching Indian entertainment channels - parivar (family), parampara (tradition), prarthana (prayer), puja (worship), shanti (peace), dharam (religion), aatmahatya (suicide) and pradhan mantri (prime minister)."

पढ़ाई में सबसे तेज़ बच्चे फिनलैंड के

सत्तावन देशों में फैले क़रीब पन्द्रह साल के बच्चों की एक परीक्षा में फ़िनिश बच्चे दुनिया में सबसे तेज़ बच्चों में से पाए गए. ये टेस्ट विज्ञान, गणित, और रीडिंग (वाचन) विषयों में लिए गए थे. भारत उन देशों में शामिल नहीं था जहाँ ये परीक्षा ली गई पर बस्तों और माँ-बाप की आशाओं के बोझ से दबे भारतीय बच्चों की दशा से मुझे कोई ख़ास उम्मीद नहीं है. अमेरिकी विद्यार्थी विज्ञान में 29वें क्रम पर रहे और गणित में 35वें पर.

यह जानना रुचिकर होगा कि फ़िनलैंड में हाइ-स्कूल के बच्चे रोज़ मुश्किल से आधे घंटे का होमवर्क पाते हैं और बच्चों का स्कूल में दाखिला 7 साल से पहले नहीं होता.

वालस्ट्रीट जर्नल ने इस पर आज एक रिपोर्ट प्रकाशित की है. उसमें से सिर्फ़ एक बात जो सोचने का मसाला देती है:

One explanation for the Finns' success is their love of reading. Parents of newborns receive a government-paid gift pack that includes a picture book. Some libraries are attached to shopping malls, and a book bus travels to more remote neighborhoods like a Good Humor truck.

Finland shares its language with no other country, and even the most popular English-language books are translated here long after they are first published. Many children struggled to read the last Harry Potter book in English because they feared they would hear about the ending before it arrived in Finnish. Movies and TV shows have Finnish subtitles instead of dubbing.
